(Feb – 2022) The Hunger Hero Award is the highest honor awarded by North Country Food Bank each year. This award is given to someone who has had a significant, positive, and lasting impact on North Country’s work and ability to distribute food to people in need across our region.Congratulations to John Thorson — the 2021 recipient! John dedicated countless hours to our board of directors and our building project over the past several years. He served on the board for nine years, including five years as the board chair. He worked with the Executive Director to serve as the general manager on our recent building project. Over the years, he helped the food bank make many connections locally, regionally, politically, and financially. John has been a strong supporter of North Country’s work and a loyal donor of time and funds to both the food bank and the building project. Along with his sons, John has also donated more than a semi-load of sweet corn to the food bank each of the past five years for distribution.John’s lasting legacy for his years of service at North Country will unquestionably be the time and talent he spent on the building project. He discovered the building and helped develop the plan to remodel it to make it work for North Country’s operations. John’s efforts and work helped us get into the new facility that allows us to do the work necessary to make sure none of our neighbors have to wonder when they will get to eat their next meal. John’s efforts have made a real difference in the fight against hunger in northwest and west central Minnesota. It was North Country’s pleasure and honor to present John Thorson, our former board member and board chair, and
number one ambassador and supporter, with the 2021 Hunger Hero Award.
