(Mankato, MN) — September 20th, 2024 — The Twin Valley Council, Scouting America, which serves 15 counties in South Central Minnesota, has successfully completed its “Year of Service.” From September 1, 2023, to August 31, 2024, the Scouts committed to providing over 25,000 hours of community service. Impressively, they surpassed this goal, contributing a total of 30,534 hours.
According to the Non-Profit Leadership Council, the average value of an hour of service is $36.31. This means the Scouts’ efforts are valued at $1,108,689.
The Scouts engaged in a variety of projects, including their annual Scouting for Food campaign, which collected 53,443 pounds of food for 20 different food pantries. They also participated in bell ringing for the Salvation Army, volunteered at Kiwanis Holiday Lights, conducted numerous park, cemetery, and stream clean-ups, and assisted at local churches and schools.
The Twin Valley Council’s dedication to service highlights the positive impact that Scouting can have on communities, fostering a spirit of volunteerism and civic responsibility among its members.
