(Minneapolis, MN) 10/7/2024 — The Sheltie Shenanigans party at Beard’s Plaisance in Minneapolis saw over 30 attendees and their Shetland Sheepdogs gather under clear skies on Sunday. The event, which celebrated the beloved breed, featured participants from Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota.
The gathering was not only a social success but also a charitable one, raising $507 for the Minnesota Sheltie Rescue, a non-profit organization, that has assisted over 950 Shelties in need since its founding in 2003.
The Minnesota Sheltie Rescue (MNSR) operates as an all-volunteer, foster-based rescue. The dogs in their program live with families in temporary foster homes while awaiting adoption. All dogs are fully vetted prior to adoption, including spay/neuter, vaccinations, dental care, microchipping, and any other necessary veterinary care.
The organization collaborates with animal shelters to help Shelties in need, providing a spot for another waiting dog. They also assist families facing the difficult decision of surrendering their Sheltie by connecting them with resources or bringing the dog into rescue when foster homes are available.
Shelties from impound or shelters facing uncertain futures are given the highest priority. MNSR ensures all legal relinquishment forms are obtained and gathers as much information as possible about the dog’s temperament and health history.
Organizers and attendees praised the event’s atmosphere and the opportunity to connect with fellow Sheltie enthusiasts from across the country.
